Description
Voting Rights Lab advocates for free and fair elections and for participation in elections by all eligible voters. In the US, elections are administered by local officials. In particular, these officials have responsibility for validating the results of elections in their districts. In the 2020 election, some such individuals were pressured not certify election results, despite a lack of evidence that such results were invalid. Democracy advocates worry that local officials will face even more intense pressure in 2024. Therefore, VRL has launched an initiative in seven states to educate, support, and monitor local officials who are likely to be pressured not to certify results by unsuccessful candidates and their allies. This grant will help to underwite those activities, which include advertising, local voter education and mobilization, and partnering with local leaders to encourage respect for democratic processes.
