Description

This special projects grant will enable the Oklahoma Humanities Council to host the “United We Stand” convening of state humanities councils in September 2024. “United We Stand” is an initiative of the National Endowment for the Humanities and the National Endowment for the Arts to combat hate-motivated violence. In September 2023, NEH awarded $2.8 million to state humanities councils to support local public humanities projects that promoted cross-cultural understanding—along with additional, emergency grants to advance healing in the wake of violence. One year later, NEH will convene the state councils to share their learnings from the last year of work in Oklahoma City, the scene of the worst domestic terrorist attack in US history. Luce funds will supplement NEH funding for the event and will help to cover meeting costs, including meals, transportation, facilities rentals, audio-visual services, etc.
