Description
This grant will support the U.S.-Vietnam Futures Initiative at Duke University’s Sanford School of Public Policy which aims to strengthen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the U.S. and Vietnam, a historic elevation of the relationship that took place in September 2023. Core activities will include annual Track 1.5 dialogues and high-level visits with government officials and local policy communities. Two U.S.-Vietnam bilateral dialogues will be held during the first two years, focusing on climate cooperation, economic engagement, and defense coordination. A trilateral dialogue in Year Three will involve subject matter experts from China to discuss regional policy priorities of each country while exploring potential fields of cooperation. Findings from the dialogues will be shared with key policymakers via private briefings to offer strategic advice and actionable policy recommendations, as well as with the public through published reports on regional trends and opportunities. The initiative will support emerging scholars through commissioned papers, presentations at all three dialogues, and active involvement throughout the project to facilitate connections among the next generation of experts on U.S.-Vietnam relations.
