The future of Asian Studies lies with the next generation of scholars. The Association for Asian Studies (AAS) seeks Luce support to create a series of dissertation workshops that would serve diverse interests of doctoral students from both North America and Asia, covering contemporary and historical topics across various disciplines. Modeled after the Luce-funded pilot workshops on Global China, four AAS Area Councils will organize a total of twelve thematic workshops at the Association’s North American and AAS-in-Asia annual conferences over three years, starting with the 2025 meeting in Nepal. These workshops aim to provide a mentored forum for young scholars in the critical dissertation writing phase to receive feedback from peers, hone research skills, expand professional networks, and prepare for career opportunities in academia and beyond.
