Description
To help address knowledge gaps on trends in China’s global engagement, particularly in the Global South, IAD will convene key thinkers and decision-makers from Latin America, the Caribbean and other world areas to compare research findings and observations. Activities will include meetings in Chile (on Chinese corporate activity), Southeast Asia (on China’s approach to climate cooperation) and Europe (on China’s recalibration of the BRI). Outcomes will include co-authored case studies of Chinese economic activity across regions; public events; and creation of a digital platform for publication of local-level analysis and cross-regional comparisons. Participants will include emerging scholars and practitioners, and China-based experts, the latter to help reinvigorate connections weakened by the pandemic. IAD will collaborate with Georgetown’s Africa-China Initiative on the meeting in Europe. This grant would advance Asia’s Goal 1 (Asian studies), Goal 2 (Promote peace and cooperation between the US and Asia by ensuring that policymakers and other leaders have access to the people, organizations, information, and resources they need), and Goal 4 (border crossing).
