The Henry Luce Foundation is pleased to welcome Brian F. Murphy as its new vice president and chief financial officer. In this role, Murphy will oversee finance, accounting, and information technology.

Murphy joins the Foundation from Bennington College, where he served as senior vice president for finance and administration since 2014. During his time at the Vermont-based liberal arts college, he restructured its debt to obtain more favorable terms and to secure funding for a $25 million renovation of a historic building in the heart of campus.

“I have had the privilege of working with Brian Murphy at Bennington College, and grew to rely on his wise, expert, and measured counsel during my tenure as president. His experience and expertise will be invaluable as we chart our future course. I am confident in his ability to serve as the financial steward of the Foundation at this critical juncture,” said President and CEO Mariko Silver.

“I am excited and honored to be able to work alongside such a talented and committed group of individuals,” said Murphy. “I look forward to serving this Foundation and its grantees in the coming years.”

Prior to joining Bennington, Murphy held the positions of chief financial officer and chief operating officer at the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) during a period of high growth in enrollment and programs. Earlier in his career, Murphy practiced as a CPA and consultant with KPMG.

Murphy earned his MBA at the University of Chicago and did his undergraduate studies at Florida State University, where he graduated summa cum laude.
