Description

Panorama was founded by the Association of Historians of American Art (AHAA) as the first peer-reviewed, open-access electronic publication dedicated to U.S. art and visual culture. Since a start-up grant in 2012, Luce has been the journal’s lead funder, renewing support through four subsequent grants. This more substantial grant aims to contribute to Panorama’s longer-term financial health, underwriting six forthcoming issues, staff positions, and digital archiving. Panorama’s editors will focus on extending the reach of the journal as it expands its coverage of media and geography for its subscribers across the United States and beyond. In 2023, Panorama had over 100,000 discrete users, 50,000 engaged sessions, and 4,729 articles downloaded. In addition to scholarly articles, Panorama publishes research notes, book reviews, exhibition reviews, and “Colloquium,” a section of scholarly and polemical questions with responses from leading interpreters of American art and visual culture. Current support from Luce has stimulated a consortium of funders willing to contribute substantially to the journal’s sustainable future.
