Description
The South Asian American Digital Archive (SAADA), based in Philadelphia, seeks to challenge the traditional power structure in the archival process by building an inclusive collection created for and by the community it represents, encompassing a wide array of materials ranging from oral history interviews, photographs, letters, newspaper clippings to community publications and digital resources. SAADA has successfully created a space of belonging where South Asian Americans see their stories as a fundamental part of the American story. It has also been recognized as the nation’s leading resource for South Asian American historical and educational content. Luce funds would support SAADA’s strategic planning to establish a storytelling center in New York City, serving as a nexus for South Asian American storytelling hubs nationwide and a space for community-driven exhibits and public engagement. This center will enable community members to participate in SAADA archiving programs in-person, expanding the size, scope and accessibility of its collections.
