Description
Housed at Union Theological Seminary, the Kairos Center is a national organization perhaps best known for its role as coanchor of the Poor People’s Campaign: A National Call for Moral Revival. Kairos is an ancient Greek word describing a time of great change, “when the old ways of the world are dying, and new ones are struggling to be born,” and the center’s work aims to be responsive to the challenges and opportunities of the moment. With support from Luce and others, the center has partnered to develop a cross-sector, multiracial, multifaith, and multi-ideological network of leaders seeking to deepen understanding of the white Christian nationalist movement in the United States and to generate innovative strategies to counter its influence. Through these efforts and other programs, Kairos aims to equip and connect faith leaders drawn from diverse communities, linking them with a wide network of grassroots and religious organizations seeking to advance democracy and pursue justice. This grant would advance Religion and Theology’s Goal 2(a), to invest in diverse faith leaders and faith-rooted knowledge organizations seeking to build a more just, compassionate and democratic world.
