The American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS) has announced the latest awards for collaborative, interdisciplinary projects at universities that connect humanities and social science scholars with journalists. Supported by a grant from the Henry R. Luce Initiative on Religion in International Affairs, the program brings together scholars and the media to develop more informed and nuanced reporting on religion in global affairs and deepen public understanding of religion.

Grants were awarded to:

  • Decolonizing the Representation of Muslim Women in the Media: Training Next Generation Journalists – University of California, Davis
  • The Politics of Religion in Africa: Social Movements, Digital Media, and the Global Public Sphere – The New School
  • Commander of the Faithful: A Journalistic Examination of Religious and Cultural Diversity Under Political Islam in Morocco – New York University
