Our PrioritiesNurture Knowledge Communities & Institutions

We support scholars, artists, writers, elders and other knowledge makers as they seek to produce, disseminate, and preserve new understandings. And we seek to strengthen the infrastructure they depend on to carry out their work.

What We DoWe help foster collaboration that leads to a greater understanding of the world and our place in it.

The Luce Foundation supports formal knowledge institutions and the individuals who work in them. At the same time, we’re looking beyond traditional organizations for wide-ranging sources of innovation, including community advocates, Indigenous communities, arts organizations, and media makers.

Leadership Fellowships

To give adequate attention to the most important needs and issues of the times, we regularly assess our slate of fellowships, creating new programs and retiring others as necessary. We’re proud of every fellow who made valuable contributions to their fields with Luce support.

Decades of Grantmaking

We recognize that knowledge has the power to transform people, communities, and institutions–we can’t cultivate justice or a healthy democratic culture without it. That’s why we pour our resources into promoting ideas and information and boosting access to them.
