Description

This grant will support the Native American Rights Fund and their partnership with University of Colorado Law School (Colorado Law) to support continued work of The Implementation Project (TIP) aiming to advance implementation of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP). Adopted by the UN in 2007, the Declaration recognizes Indigenous Peoples’ rights in the realms of traditional knowledge, land, religion, culture, language, health, education, and governance, among others. This grant will allow TIP to expand their focus on religious freedom, including the preservation of sacred places, revitalization of Indigenous languages and ceremonies, cultural preservation, protection of sacred knowledge, repatriation of human remains and cultural items from foreign museums/entities, protection of peyote plant medicine/ceremonies, and operationalizing the safeguard of free, prior, and informed consent. This grant will support their efforts to conduct outreach, build coalitions, formulate strategy, supervise, and engage in research, facilitate and participate in in-person and virtual workshops/listening sessions, engage in advocacy in relevant to UNDRIP implementation.
 
This grant aligns with IKI program strategy 2b: To support the efforts of Native knowledge leaders and organizations to advocate effectively for policies and resources that will strengthen Indigenous knowledge and sovereignty.
