Description

CWP provides postdoctoral fellowships designed to mentor, and foster the careers of, young scholars dedicated to research, writing, and teaching about China’s foreign relations. In bridging China studies and the field of international relations, CWP helps counter a trend in the social sciences that undervalues area expertise and raises barriers to entry and tenure for scholars with an area specialization. A high percentage of the program’s alumni to date are now in tenured or tenure-track positions, many of them at public universities.  CWP director Professor Tom Christensen, who served as Deputy Assistant Secretary of State and still advises the US Government, encourages fellows to engage in analysis to inform policymakers and the public.  Our grant would help support annually two fellowships, workshops, a public conference, a speaker series, and program administration.   This grant would advance Asia’s Goal 1 (Asian studies) and Goal 2 (Promote peace and cooperation between the US and Asia by ensuring that policymakers and other leaders have access to the people, organizations, information, and resources they need).
