Description

INAIL seeks to provide $25,000 to IMPACT, the Kenyan indigenous organization, to support Tanzanian Maasai. The Tanzanian Maasai have been removed from their traditional homelands to make way for a trophy hunting concession. Some 2000 Maasai have fled Tanzania for Kenya. IMPACT will provide funding for safety and security training for human rights defenders as well as financial aid for 100 women leaders who are now refugees in Kenya. This project was brought to Luce by IMPACT, one of our DEPT grantees. The preservation of land rights is a common theme across Indigenous communities; this modest grant is consistent with INAIL’s early exploration of global Indigeneity.
