Description

The Leslie Lohman Museum of Art (LLMA) has from its inception been dedicated to creating a home for LGBTQIA+ art, artists, and community. Now, as expanded queer visibility is coinciding with a resurgence of anti-LGBTQIA+ attacks, violence, and the legislated repression of queer and trans lives, LLMA is committed to affirming queer creativity and empowerment, and catalyzing culture change. LLMA is organizing a major, nationally touring exhibition from its permanent collection centering works that place the visibility of gender non-conforming bodies and gender diversity at the center of queer imagemaking. The exhibition will foreground recent acquisitions by racially and gender diverse artists across themes including genderplay, activism, and world-building. The project builds on LLMA’s recent, Luce-funded efforts to document and digitize the collection. Grant funds will support the exhibition and tour, and a term curatorial fellow. LLMA will also provide venues with a dedicated educational module and programmatic recommendations for engaging LGBTQIA+ community and allies.Â
