Description
This grant will support the efforts of the Hawai’i Council for the Humanities to host a series of events for Indigenous peoples of the Pacific islands on the state of Pacific Islander humanities. These meetings will occur during the Festival of Pacific Arts and Culture (FestPAC), the world’s largest gathering of Indigenous Peoples from the Pacific.
The Hawai’i Council for the Humanities meetings will focus on convening cultural leaders from the Pacific Islands and discuss the idea of creating the Pacific Islands Humanities Network (sign an MOU with interested cross island parties) and to discuss critical needs and resources to advance Pacific Islander humanities with federal agencies and private foundations. These meetings will also allow Indigenous peoples from across the Pacific Islands to build relationships and an agenda to advance Pacific Islander humanities. NEH is the lead supporter of this project and our small grant will provide additional resources to cover meeting expenses not allowed under federal grants (e.g., hospitality, honorarium, etc.).
