Description

Newcomb Art Museum (NAM) at Tulane University (TU) has launched a comprehensive assessment of the university-wide art collection and is committed to relocating art across TU’s campuses–including extensive new spaces in the city’s restored former Charity Hospital–and in public settings in New Orleans. To advance these aims, NAM seeks funding for a term Curator of Campus Collections and Public Engagement who will lead the work in collaboration with NAM’s director, Maurita Poole. The curator will supervise a campus-wide art inventory, explore lesser-known areas of NAM’s own holdings of regional art, and lead the launch of a campus art loan program. They will advance TU’s larger effort to create bridges to under-served New Orleans communities through a public art initiative begun in 2019 and liaise with the Arts Council of New Orleans and Prospect New Orleans around art initiatives that enhance  or public sites.
This grant advances the AAP’s strategic goal 3a: Supporting collection-based projects aimed at expanded access and utilization for wide-ranging audiences and communities.
