Description

In partnership with the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Baltimore Museum of Art is organizing the first full-scale retrospective of work by Joan Mitchell (1925 – 1992), a major postwar abstractionist whose paintings embody persistent experimentation and extraordinary emotional intensity. Joan Mitchell: Fierce Beauty will present 100 works, uniting signature paintings with rarely seen canvases, drawings, and sketchbooks associated with ten key suites of work. The accompanying catalogue will be the first full account of Mitchell’s career. After its debut in Baltimore in September 2020, the exhibition will travel to the Guggenheim Museum (New York) and the Fondation Louis Vuitton (Paris).Â
