Description

The CU Boulder Program in Jewish Studies will launch a new project focused on people of color in American Judaism. While more than 10% of American Jews identify as people of color, both scholarly and public narratives of American Jewish history have frequently failed to include their voices or acknowledge their diverse experiences, overlooking Jews of color as knowledge makers, community leaders, and shapers of history. Seeking to recover and amplify the voices of those members of the American Jewish community who identify as people of color, the project will convene a core working group made up of diverse knowledge makers inside and outside of the academy, and develop an accessible and dynamic digital archive featuring oral histories that document the lives and experiences of Jews of color. Related project activities will foster public conversations about Jews of color and racism as they shape the experiences of Jewish communities, and support a series of public engagement initiatives by working group members.
