Description

No Man’s Land: Women of Land Art will seek to shift the historically male-dominated narrative of the 20th century’s Land Art Movement, which inspired monumental works made directly in the landscape. Featuring the work of 12 women, the exhibition will trace their roles from the movement’s emergence in the sixties, when artists were working in remote settings, through its transition by the 1980s to urban centers and art parks. It will additionally explore the synergy of their works with eco-feminism and the environmental movement. The Nasher will embrace the challenge of representing Land Art works in galleries by featuring preparatory designs, related sculpture, documentary photographs, films, videos, and archival documents. The museum’s sculpture garden will be the site of larger-scale sculptures and installations, possibly including works recreated by the artists.
