Description

The Institute for Diversity and Civic Life’s “Grounded Religion” initiative will convene members of the Luce Foundation’s COVID-19 rapid response grantee network to explore and further develop the field of community-engaged public scholarship on religion and theology. The initiative seeks to create gathering spaces, both in-person and online, for the Luce grantees and to develop a series of digital resources for the ongoing development of this work. A grantee retreat to be hosted by the Fetzer Institute will provide an opportunity to document and record learnings gleaned by the cohort. Following the retreat, the Institute will develop an online training certificate in community-engaged public scholarship. The Luce Foundation’s grant will support funding for Institute staff, stipends for workshop advisors and participants, a series of small grants to facilitate further collaborations, and a resource website.
A 2020 Luce grant of $250,000 supported the Institute’s project on religion and migration in Texas.
This grant would advance the Religion and Theology Program’s goal of deepening public knowledge of American religion by building a network of public knowledge makers.
