Description

The Truman Scholars program seeks to invest in talented young people who intend to pursue a career in public service. Since 2013, the Truman Scholarship Foundation has offered an intensive introduction to elective office for 15-20 Truman Scholars interested pursuing this form of service. The Democracy Fellows have off-the-record conversations with Federal, state, and local elected officials and learn about coalition building, election law, fundraising, party leadership, and campaign mechanics. The Truman Foundation, which relies on interest on US Treasuries for its funding, has seen its revenue decline in recent years because of low interest rates. A contribution from Luce will support three more cohorts of Democracy Fellows over the next five years. Funds will go to scholarships for the Fellows, event costs, and staffing.
