Description

The Clyfford Still Museum (CSM) is currently developing an exhibition co-curated with children of the Colville Confederated Tribes, which will amplify the voices of some of the descendants of individuals portrayed by American painter Clyfford Still (1904-1980). CSM’s Bailey Placzek, Curator of Collections, and Nicole Cromartie, Director of Learning and Engagement, will guide the project and ensure that engagement with Native communities is both ethical and honors tribal children’s rights to contribute to the interpretation of artworks representing their cultures in an exhibition slated to open in fall 2025. Working collaboratively with artist and consultant, Michael Holloman, and Brock Belgarde, Archivist of the Colville Confederated Tribes, CSM staff will work to foreground previously overlooked tribal perspectives and primary source material in the exhibition. AAP funding will support costs associated with CSM staff to visit the Colville Reservation to perform research and build robust relationships with key stakeholders, thought partners, and leaders who will bridge communication between Colville youth and the museum.
