Description

With the goal of bringing two compelling areas of its permanent collection to greater public awareness, The Delaware Art Museum (DAM) is organizing two exhibitions to open in 2024 and 2025: “Jazz Age Illustration” will be the first major exhibition to survey the art of popular illustration in the United States between 1919 and 1942;  “Portfolio: Printmaking in the United States, 1960–1995” will showcase print portfolios produced between the 1960s and the early 1990s, when influential workshops and master printers brought new artists and audiences to printmaking. Both projects will allow DAM staff to engage in fresh, collection-driven research, interpretation, and conservation; and they will additionally provide the opportunity to feature diverse rosters of artists and subjects, including leading figures of the Harlem Renaissance. Grant funds would support activities associated with the production of the exhibitions, as well as a publication and symposium for “Jazz Age Illustration.”
The project aligns with the AAP strategic goal 3a: To advance the care, documentation, publication, and installation of under-utilized collections for expanded access for wide-ranging communities.
