Description

NAP has been instrumental in bridging gaps between Tribal leaders, federal agencies, and philanthropic funding sources. This grant will allow NAP to partner with the United South and Eastern Tribe’s to provide access to for Native American leaders to attend the 2023 White House Tribal Nations Summit. The White House Summit is an annual event and Native Americans in Philanthropy is taking an active role ensuring that Tribal Leaders will have the ability to attend this event regardless of economics. They have launched a campaign with the United South and Eastern Tribe’s to provide scholarships to tribal leaders to attend. The White House Tribal Leader’s summit is instrumental in ensuring that Tribal Leader’s understand the resources and can engage with the Federal government, and at this session, there will be additional information on the collaboration between the DOI and NAP. This summit is key to communicating information about the federal government and their programs in support of Native nations.

This is an important proposal that will advance Indigenous representation in DC and provide opportunities for Native American advocacy.

This connects to 2023 IKI strategic goals 1c: To increase government support—both monetary and non-monetary–for the work of Indigenous knowledge makers.
