Description

ACMS works to foster exchange with Mongolia, an understudied country. A grant will renew support for the Mongolia Field School, which offers summer courses co-taught by American and Mongolian faculty.  MFS is open to international and Mongolian participants ranging from scholars and students to K-12 teachers and lifelong learners.  An orientation in Ulaanbaatar on Mongolian culture, history, and language is followed by three courses per season, for 20 participants per course.  Site visits, field research and workshops explore issues such as economic development, Buddhism and environmental conservation, and cultural heritage protection.  A 2023 course on climate change and public health will include Native Americans from rural Montana.  Our funding will, inter alia , enable fellowships to participants from minority-serving institutions and others without the financial means to attend.       This grant would advance Asia’s Goal 1 (Asian studies) and Goal 3 (Enhance public awareness of and engagement with Asians and Asian Americans).
