Description

“The Heresies Generation” is the first major museum exhibition to examine the diverse artists who coalesced around the landmark feminist art journal, Heresies: A Feminist Publication on Arts and Politics, from 1977 to 1992. Spanning three decades of art making, it will feature works by eighty key artists whose visual and conceptual investigations pioneered intersectional ideas that have come to play a key role in American art discourse in the 21st century: gender, race, class, labor, ecology, craft, and the effects of new media. Including works across a wide range of media as well as rich archival material, the exhibition will also explore Heresies as a site where the often ascribed “whiteness” of second wave feminism was actively challenged. The exhibition will tour.
