Description

The Philbrook Museum of Art is in dire need of ready funds at this moment of severe earned-revenue losses caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. In the letter attached here, the Philbrook’s director, Scott Stulen,  requests consideration of a $75,000 emergency grant from the Henry Luce Foundation to support two curatorial positions: Associate Curator of Contemporary Art & Design,; and Curator of Native American and Non-Western Art.  Support from the Foundation would secure both positions at a full-time and benefited basis for nearly 6 months, from May – October 2020. With this email, I wholeheartedly recommend approval of the proposed emergency grant. The funds would be drawn from the American Art Program’s 2020 allocation.
The Foundation’s support of the Philbrook’s  talented and highly committed staff at this unprecedented moment, through this emergency grant, is a rapid and effective way to assist them in keeping their staff whole and active through these months of unprecedented challenges to the museum sector.
