Description
For an opening in 2025, The Penn Museum (PM) is undertaking a major reinstallation of its Native American collections in collaboration with nine consulting curators from diverse cultural communities, including Jeremy Johnson (Delaware), RaeLynn Butler (Muscogee-Creek), Mary Weahkee (Pueblo, Comanche), Darlene See (Lingít/Aleut), and Nadia Sethi (Alutiiq). The participating curators will be in dialogue with PM staff throughout development and implementation of the project: articulating cultural and ethical protocols in the selection, treatment, and presentation of objects; contributing research, interpretation, and Indigenous language components; and engaging their own communities in programs. Themes across the installation will include land stewardship, resistance and resilience, forced movement and migration, cultural continuity, creative practices, and repatriation. PM’s anticipated annual audience includes 6000 school-aged children.
