Description

American Indian Community House (AICH) was founded in 1969 during the American Indian Movement to ensure the visibility, well-being, and social survival of urban and reservation-based Native Americans in New York City. This grant to AICH will advance their work focused on the intergenerational transfer of knowledge and culture through their Youth Council, Elder’s luncheons, and artist’s residency. Secondly, this grant will support their work to partner with cultural and academic institutions in the city on Indigenous programming and initiatives. For example, AICH continues to partner with Indigenous Studies and other academic departments at CUNY, BMCC, and NYU on developing culturally appropriate curriculum. Finally, this grant will support their Land Back Action Circle, a collaboration with New York-area philanthropic organizations to build an Indigenous community center in the city.
