In the fourth program of the Henry Luce Foundation Conversations on American Art and Museums series at the New-York Historical Society, Kellie Jones, Rujeko Hockley, and Cameron Shaw examine the historically ambivalent place of artists of African descent in the American art museum and ask what it might portend for us today.

  • Kellie Jones (moderator)
    Kellie Jones is chair of the African American and African Diaspora Studies department and Hans Hofmann Professor of Modern Art in the Department of Art History and Archaeology at Columbia University. Her research interests include African American and African Diaspora artists, Latinx and Latin American Artists, and issues in contemporary art and museum theory. She is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and has received numerous awards for her work, including a 2016 MacArthur Foundation fellowship.
