Description

The News Liter acy Project (NLP) was founded in 2008 by Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter Alan Miller. Since its launch, NLP has become a national leader in providing K-12 students with the tools they need to interpret and evaluate the information sources they encounter. NLP focuses its efforts on middle-school aged children, offering classroom teachers curricular materials they can incorporate into their lesson plans in ways that meet state standards. These efforts have reached some two million students through more than 60,000 educators nationwide. Independent scholars have found NLP’s curriculum to be effective in equipping students to recognize inaccurate information on social media—and in boosting their belief in the value of a free press to a vital democracy. Luce funding will support NLP’s work generally, including curriculum development, dissemination, and evaluation.Â
