The International Institute for Asian Studies (IIAS), headquartered at Universiteit Leiden (UL) in the Netherlands, is dedicated to fostering multidisciplinary study of Asia, promoting national and international cooperation, and bridging academic institutions with cultural, social and policy organizations. In collaboration with the Universitas Airlangga, Indonesia, IIAS is organizing the ICAS 13 Conference-Festival in Surabaya, under the theme “Crossways of Knowledge,” as a new academic convention model that embeds scholarships into societal context and encourages interactions with local communities and non-academics. Requested funds from Luce would cover travel costs for promising scholars and practitioners in need, particularly those from the Global South and at early-career stages with limited resources. Their participation will ensure inclusivity and diversity, expand connections across disciplines and geographies, and enrich their own scholarship and professional development.
