Description

The Jewish Theological Seminary (JTS) will launch a series of new projects in its Center for Pastoral Education. Formed in 2009, the Center for Pastoral Education at JTS offers one of the few seminary programs in the nation accredited by the Association of Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE). Most clinical pastoral education programs are run by ACPE educators in hospital settings, resulting in a gap between clinically-based education and the academic pastoral training that students receive in seminary. Building on its multifaith, seminary-based approach, JTS will expand the capacity of its clinical pastoral education program; conduct new research on its hybrid approach to the spiritual and theological formation of students, which blends clinical and academic methods; and develop a new course on “Jewish and Christian Pastoral Theologies,” in collaboration with neighboring Union Theological Seminary. The Luce Foundation’s grant will support the director of the Center for Pastoral Education, a Jewish ACPE certified educator candidate, and a part-time program assistant, as well as providing support for evaluative research, curriculum development, and gatherings with key partners.
