Description

The American Art Program (AAP) has invited the Oakland Museum of California (OMCA) to apply for a grant through the Museum Partners for Social Justice (MPSJ) sub-program, which aims to support museums in developing and disseminating new project models and implementation frameworks to advance justice and equity. AAP offers these grants annually to a cohort of four museums in two pairs: two leaders have distinguished themselves in the execution of prior Luce-funded projects; and two partners are poised to learn and apply new practices in their own planned projects. OMCA will partner with the Toledo Museum of Art (TMA), sharing the frameworks it has developed to ensure its permanent galleries are welcoming, accessible and culturally relevant to diverse audiences that are representative of Oakland and the Bay Area region. As lead partner, OMCA will share well-tested practices for community input and evaluation, interdisciplinary content development, interpretive strategies, and exhibition design.
This grant aligns with AAP strategic goal 1b: To expand the community of museums committing to anti-racist practices and projects that advance representation and equity, in their museums and for the partners and communities they engage and serve.
