Description
This grant will continue the Luce/ACLS Program in China Studies, administered by ACLS since 2012 and redesigned in 2023. The revamped program aims to sustain and enhance publicly engaged and responsive scholarship on China while expanding the scope of “China studies” to reflect the growing influence of China and the Chinese diaspora across the globe. During the next three funding cycles—2025-26, 2026-27 and 2027-28, the Program will continue to offer both flexible and long-term fellowships for early-career scholars to address their pressing needs, travel grants for emerging and under-resourced scholars to visit research sites, and collaborative grants for groups to collectively research and pilot solutions to significant challenges in the field. In addition, ACLS will further develop the China Digital Archives Mapping Project to enable equitable access to China studies resources and create a knowledge base of best practices for organizations seeking to digitize and preserve their print collections. Training in public writing for fellows will help expand audiences and influence public discourse on China.
