Description

Since its launch in 2017, Report for America – an initiative of The GroundTruth Project, a recent HRLI grantee – has prioritized the creation of full-time reporting positions in communities where critical beats like religion, health, education, and government accountability have fallen by the wayside. Starting in summer 2023, Report for America will support several full-time religion reporters in five states, including Texas, Wisconsin, Illinois, Arizona, and West Virginia. The project seeks our support to increase the size of its religion reporting corps in 2024, including both religion-specific and “religion-intersectional” beats, allowing newsrooms to do deep reporting on stories where faith intersects with topics such as gender, education, politics, and democracy. The project’s newsroom partners, and the reporters they hire, will receive local fundraising assistance, as well as training, mentorship, and other professional development opportunities.
