Description

The Minneapolis College of Art and Design (MCAD) is organizing “Homegoing: Peter Williams—a call and response,” an exhibition honoring the life, artwork, and legacy of MCAD alumnus Peter Williams (1952-2021). Scheduled to open in fall 2025, the exhibition will explore the themes and questions—prominently including the fight for equality– to which Williams dedicated his life and practice. Tapping into the centuries old Black cultural practice of “call and response,” “Homegoing” will also place a selection of works by Black MCAD alumni artists ( including Leslie Barlow, Kehayr Brown-Ransaw, Christopheraaron Deans, Bobby Rogers, and Bill Jeter) in dialogue will paintings by Williams. Envisioned as vital presentation for MCAD students and faculty,  “Homegoing” will also be a meaningful event for Minneapolis communities of color. The project is led by Director and Curator of Galleries and Exhibitions Keisha Williams and will include an accompanying, multi-author publication to be made available to MCAD visitors attendees at no cost.
