Description

As the seventh iteration of the Cooper Hewitt’s Design Triennial, “HOME” will survey contemporary perspectives on the theme of home across the United States through a series of 24 site-related commissions from a diverse roster of artists, architects and designers. Filling the entire museum and on view for a full year, “HOME” will illuminate vastly different approaches to housing and habitat with the aim of advancing a greater understanding of this country and its geographies, value systems, and inhabitants. Participants will reflect on their distinct cultural and local histories, and on the social, technological, and environmental changes happening today, to propose designs with the capacity to transform lived experience. The accompanying publication will feature writing by scholars across a range of disciplines, policymakers, and artists and designers.
This grant aligns with the AAP strategic goal 1a: To advance innovative museum projects that prioritize representation and equity through the preservation, study, and presentation of work by under-represented artists of color, collaborations with diverse external partners, and outreach to underserved communities.
