Description

Pittsburgh Theological Seminary will undertake a collaborative multimedia project on gentrification, race, and theological education. One key outcome of the project will be the production and distribution of a 30-minute documentary film offering a theological exploration of the racial dynamics at work in recent patterns of metropolitan transformation. Focusing substantially on neighborhoods undergoing urban redevelopment in metro-Pittsburgh, a multiinstitutional team of scholars, religious leaders, and media professionals will work together to produce the film and related educational resources, collaborating closely with Duke University’s Center for Documentary Studies. Research linked to the film will survey residents and faith leaders in several Pittsburgh neighborhoods, and an online site created to host the film will also provide access to other materials, including video, photography, articles, research results, study guides, and curriculum. The Luce Foundation’s grant will support film production and website development, research assistance and survey analysis, a series of local events, and a part-time project assistant.
