Description
In the course of the annual loan exhibition competition conducted by the APP, we regularly consider the option of offering discretionary grant funds to support worthy publications associated with exhibition projects that have been eliminated in one of the rounds. This year, The Drawing Center (TDC) was invited to apply for funding for the catalogue, “Joan Jonas: Animal, Vegetable, Mineral,” which will accompany the 2024 exhibition of over 300 drawings by the renowned American video and installation artist. Both exhibition and publication will explore Jonas’s use of drawing as recording device, an expression of the notion of process, and a dialogue with the natural world. The book will be co-published by DABA, an art book press founded in 2021 by the artist Adam Pendleton, and will include over 200 images including drawings, installation views, and video stills. Jonas and TDC’s director Laura Hoptman will be among the essay contributors. Luce support will allow TDC to produce a larger print run and make the book available at an accessible price.
