Description

The Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the Milwaukee Art Museum are co-organizing the first major exhibition to examine the lively and productive creative exchanges that occurred between the United States and the Nordic countries of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden over the course of the 20th century. The presentation will feature 180 works by Scandinavian and American designers, including exceptional examples of furniture, textiles, silver, ceramics, and architectural drawings. This deep dive into a decades-long dialogue among designers and makers will consider the impact of Scandinavian migrant artists to the U.S., the role of design in diplomacy, theories of design for social change, and the marketing of Scandinavian ideals. Following the Los Angeles and Milwaukee presentations in 2020, the exhibition will travel to the Nationalmuseum in Stockholm, and the Nasjonalmuseet in Oslo.Â
